KONRAD MARLBOROUGH PINOT NOIR 2013
VITICULTURE This is our single vineyard Pinot grown in the family’s own Waihopai Valley block. Grown on an arch cane canopy with yields restricted to ensure the small, intensely flavoured grapes ripen to optimum maturity. The 2013 growing season was one of the best we have seen in the valley with the fruit ripening in near perfect conditions in mid-autumn.

WINEMAKING ANALYSIS

Alcohol: 13.3%
Residual Sugar: <1g/L
Titratable Acidity: 6.2 g/L
Packing: 12 x 750ml, screwcap closure

WINEMAKING The fruit was picked in the cool of the night then cold soaked for a week prior to a warm, wild ferment. The caps were plunged regularly during primary fermentation to extract the right amount of colour, tannin & flavour from the skins. After a short post ferment maceration the wine was pressed and matured in seasoned French Oak barrique for 10 months prior to bottling in late summer 2014
TASTING NOTES The 2013 Konrad Pinot Noir has a vibrant ruby, garnet colour with lovely bluish tinges at the rim. The nose shows classic cool climate Pinot characters of red & dark cherry, cranberry and plum, spicy floral notes as well as a hint of clove and vanilla. The palate is classically restrained, revealing concentrated Pinot fruit tightly wound in a generously textural core. This is a Pinot with drive and energy, made to drink well young while having the structure to age.
Cellaring potential 6 to 8 years.
A wine to enjoy with game, lamb and poultry dishes, Italian style food and vegetarian cuisine. Especially good with soft washed rind cheeses.
